Postdoctoral position in detector development - Department of Physics


Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The successful applicant will work with Professor Ben Mazin and his group (http://mazinlab.org) on designing and fabricating the next generation of Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKIDs) for a diverse range of astrophysical applications.

Candidates should have a PhD in astronomy, physics, material science, or a related field. Significant clean room fabrication expertise is required. Familiarity with microwave electronics and superconductors is desirable. The successful candidate will participate in the research activities of the group, including opportunities to write proposals and mentor research students. UCSB provides a stimulating research environment with excellent fabrication facilities.

The initial appointment will be for one year with extensions possible for 3 - 5 years contingent on performance. The position is funded for three years. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with University of California policy. The starting date is negotiable.
